A new venue for sports and performing acts is nearing completion here in Cancun. The building is attractive and promises to be a modern facility with seating for 12,000. There will be parking for 1000 cars and 20 buses. However it is not without controversy. A recent newspaper article claimed that the project was propaganda for the PRI political party currently in power. This project is state backed and just the first stage has cost $244,739,960 pesos ($15.7 million USD) The same article claimed this project is unnecessary because Cancun already has several stadiums. The money could have been better spent according to this article. We have lived here for a few years and I really don’t know any other place that could hold that many people in the audience.
A few more details are that the stadium will have food and drink service. There will be handicap ramps. The roof is canvas and can be retracted hydraulically. The front fascia is all glass. There is protection from lightening strikes using modern technology, and an emergency power plant. Now all we need is Lady GaGa, Pink, Beyonce, Rod Stewart and others to be booked.
How it will look when completed.
We took the fast train from Verona to Venice for a day trip. The train made the 74 miles trip in 1 hour. We made one stop and entered Venice very slowly so the average speed was approximately 73 mph. The ride was butter smooth in air conditioned comfort. Here are a few of the pictures we took.
The interior was very comfortable. Air conditioned and roomy. The ride was super smooth. Only one stop was made so we were really on a very FAST train. The trains was electric.
When you arrive in Venice and walk out of the station you are immediately at the Grand Canal.
We hired a private motor launch to take us on a tour.

Until 1797, the Doges ruled the Venetian Empire and the Palazzo Ducale was where they ruled from. A Venetian Gothic fantasy palace, it was one of the first things those arriving in Venice saw as their ships sailed through the lagoon and landed at Saint Mark’s Square.
We stopped for lunch while exploring some of the back streets and passageways of Venice.
We had a great time visiting Venice. Even though it wasn’t yet high season for tourism it was very crowded and prices for everything were very expensive. More about that later. Stay tuned…….
